Shih Tzu do not "bond early". They bond to the person that feeds them, hugs them, plays with them, and loves them. Shih Tzu placed as adults bond with their new owner totally even when their previous owner sees them every week. How can a breeder that does not even live with their dogs in their home be trusted to know how the dogs bond?
If they advertise AKC registered dogs why do they register with another registry, and tell you if you want the AKC papers you have to pay to have the litter registered? Because the AKC raised their fees to register litters and some breeders do not want to put any more money into the dogs than they just have to. AKC uses DNA testing to insure that the parents of your dog are who the breeder says they are and this test is not cheap.
Why are so many non-show breeder having to import their breeding stock to get certain coveted pedigrees? It may be because the US and Canadian show breeders so seldom find new Shih Tzu breeders with a genuine desire to preserve and promote the breed in a manner that does not go against their own ethics! Anyway you look at it, if they only breed dogs to sell, no matter how they present themselves, they are a for profit breeder. (If you don't know what this means email me and I will explain it further.)
We do not promote early spay/neuter at this time. We have heard many stories of puppies that are hard to house-train or have problems with their urinary system as they get older. We prefer to let the puppy mature a bit before they have an elective surgery.
The breeder takes reservations and deposits for puppies from litters not even bred yet! We have been breeding for over 30 years and still can not predict that there will even be a litter with any certainty, so how do these for profit novice breeders know they will have babies to offer?
The mother's side of the pedigree has champions coming out the yazoo! Just where on a dog is her yazoo, anyway? (couldn't resist asking that one, sorry.)
Show quality pups, spayed/neutered $----.-- What is the point, here? Once a puppy is altered it becomes a pet, no matter the quality.
Chosen #1 Shih Tzu Breeder in the State by (BLANK) .... Who are these chosers and what makes them qualified to make this singular recommendation? If they can't identify themselves or state their credentials this award isn't worth the virtual paper it is printed on.
We raise all our puppies in our home... When they have puppies from multiple litters (often 6 to 8 litters at a time) those babies aren't raised in anyone's home.
